At DESCCO Design & Construction, our team members are dedicated to community involvement, customer loyalty, and employee care. We prioritize quality service and strong relationships between employees and clients above everything else.
Our dedication is more than just an informal guarantee – it’s our mission to hire the best team members and support them with professional growth in order to provide the greatest customer
satisfaction. We recently had the pleasure of speaking to Lisa Weller, DESCCO’s Controller, who shared how DESCCO’s company values, culture, and areas of community engagement help guide our decision-making to better support clients for every project we take on. Based on her answers, each section below describes a crucial part of DESCCO, both as a company and community member.
Our Core Values
According to Lisa Weller, to work at DESCCO is to seek out and engage in meaningful and tangible work that truly makes a difference. Our team allies with customers to battle past obstacles and overcome challenges, caring for our clients, suppliers, trade partners, and employees. DESCCO is also committed to providing meaningful and secure careers, implementing efficient processes executed by our talented people, blending and balancing education with trade experience, and pursuing fair and ethical negotiations where all parties benefit.
At DESCCO, we’re always excited to help new customers and honored when returning clients choose to partner with us again for new projects. Ensuring quality services and supportive communication at every step of a project is how we prioritize working with our clients again. As part of our standard process, we always reach out to customers for feedback so we can grow and continuously improve.
Supporting Our Community
DESCCO always strives to give back to the communities it serves, and we encourage employees to do the same. It has been DESCCO’s privilege to partner and volunteer with numerous non-profit groups on various food drives, hoagie sales, and other events within the community. For example, every year in the fall we hold the Dwight E Stoltzfus Memorial Trade Scholarship Sporting Clay Classic. The Pennsylvania College of Technology Scholarship Fund was established in memory of DESCCO founder, Dwight E Stoltzfus, who placed a high value on education in the trades. Students from the Berks County area who have a desire to work with their hands and learn a trade can earn a scholarship toward their education at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. DESCCO also offers a Charitable Giving Referral Program. For every person referred to DESCCO that becomes a customer, we will donate to a charity of the referrer’s choice from the list of area organizations that it provides.
DESCCO’s Company Culture
Lisa Weller is quick to note that DESCCO is truly a great place to work, and she’s not the only one who thinks so. Over 50% of our workforce has been with DESCCO for at least 5 years, and 25% of our workforce has been employed at DESCCO for 20+ years. This speaks volumes about how our company treats its employees, both personally and professionally. We strive to
offer the most competitive comprehensive benefits package, but we have also learned how important it is to provide a supportive, collaborative culture as well. Our work culture keeps individuals engaged and offers them room to grow in their field. We always want to get to know our employees and find out their career goals. Then, together, collaborate on a career progression plan to guide and mentor them to achieve their goals. DESCCO certainly has company goals too, and we share them with our team, but ultimately, we won’t be able to meet our goals unless we help our employees achieve theirs.
